What The Experts Say

Jerry Tennant, MD, MD (H), MD (P)

It is increasingly difficult to get good water. Our city water is an electron stealer. It contains chlorine and because it contains the treacherous fluoride, it is one of the worst toxins on the planet! It also contains all sorts of pharmaceuticals. Every time someone takes a medication and urinates into the toilet, some of that medication ends up in your city drinking water. It is not clear whether filters will remove these medications. It is clear that unfiltered city water contains medications that you didn’t know you were drinking.

The best water system I have found is manufactured by pH Prescription. The water tests superior to the popular ionic water devices and even removes fluoride. In addition, it is much less expensive than most other units.

pH Prescription is completely committed to quality throughout our entire sales and service network. We retain only professional representatives and installation technicians who are trained and certified under the guidelines of the Water Quality Association.

“Healing is Voltage”

The human body is a rechargeable battery. Every cell is a rechargeable battery. Like all batteries, water is critical. Cells are about 70% water and thus its importance is emphasized. The ability of water to enter the cell is controlled by voltage (pH).Thus when you measure total body water, extracellular water and intracellular water as well as the total body voltage, you will find that people with low voltage have an increase in extracellular water and a decrease in intracellular water. Most water or drinks that people consume in North America are low voltage (low pH) and thus contribute to intracellular dehydration. In addition, the cluster size of water molecules plays a role. Finding water that is pure and free from contaminants is alkaline (electron donor) with a small cluster size has been difficult and expensive. Finally the solution has been created by pH Prescription. It measures better than any water I have tested and is certainly more affordable than inferior products. I use it in my home, my office and recommend it to my patients.

The New Antioxidant….Restructured Water

There is no doubt that you have heard of antioxidants, almost everyone is taking one form or another as a supplement to help slow down the aging process, and to prevent systemic cellular damage. There is one thing that needs to be cleared up right here and now though. We need to clarify the definition of the term ‘anti-oxidants’, and what they are? The way most people think of the term is wrong, they don’t deplete the body of oxygen, and they don’t just get rid of free radicals (strong oxidizers and reducers). What are oxidizers, well …”to oxidize” means to combine something with oxygen. So an “antioxidant” is a substance that counteracts the oxidation process. Why has this process become such an issue; why is everyone making this sound so bad? Well, this is primarily because they don’t understand the process, or they are selling you something based on marketing hype. What are reducers? Simply put they are molecules that donate electrons to a molecular reaction. Reducer isn’t really a very good name as it is confusing. It is a substance that is oxidized (has had an electron removed) and thereby causes the reduction, or the adding on of electrons to some other substance in an oxidation reduction reaction. One molecule loses an electron, while another gains one.

“What happens when electrons are stripped away from a molecule during the trillions of reactions that occur in your body every day? Well, something called a free radical is created. What the heck is a free radical? Well, it is an atom, a molecule or an ion (an ion is an atom or molecule in which the number of electrons it has is not equal to the number of protons that an atom has). It is also known as a reactive oxygen species (ROS), these damages our cells.

If you take away one thing from this article it should be that oxidants and reductants need to be in balance ALL OF THE TIME. If they aren’t, extremes on both sides of the process will cause cellular damage which can lead to everything from premature aging to cancer. This is where the confusion lies because most companies just focus on the free radical damage that they say is caused only by oxygen…as stated, antioxidants don’t destroy oxygen. The antioxidant is just an agent which provides electrons to a reaction where there may be a deficit. The ‘redox’ reaction is just part of a process which helps to maintain balance and occurs to help prevent damage to the cells in your body. Free radical molecules have an unpaired electron and they try to take an electron from a stable healthy molecule to help maintain balance. As described, this is a process in which the production of both equal portions of reductants and oxidants are created to ensure a ‘net’ neutral outcome. Neutral, in this case, is a good thing…

When we ingest what are known as ‘antioxidant s’ they are really products (ingredients) that will provide our bodies with electrons (reductant material) to a process that is deficient in them. This is done in an effort to maintain balance. Remember, you have to have electron deficit (oxidation) and an equal amount of free electrons (either by themselves of as a part of reductant antioxidant materials) in the same amounts in the cell for the process to work the way it is supposed to.

The bottom line is this; the laws of conservation of charge, mass and energy dictate that for every oxidant (a taker of electrons) that is made, a reductant (a donor of electrons) must also be made for equilibrium to be maintained. So, without getting into too much more detail, if there are too many free radical oxidants floating around in your system with unpaired electrons, they can cause an enormous amount of damage to the cells they come in contact with. This is called ‘free radical damage’.

So, what does all of this mean? Well, these unpaired electrons in the outer shells of these molecules can cause a great of damage over time. ALL molecules and their atoms are ALWAYS looking to stay in electrical balance. This means that as stated above, the molecules that make up a substance will do whatever they have to, to obtain an electron in order to stay in balance. Even if it means that it has to steal it from another less fortunate molecule. Another name for this is oxidative damage which will produce ROS molecules.

This is where people in general have come up with the name antioxidant. When you ingest vitamin C for example, it, in effect, becomes a sacrificial lamb and becomes an electron donor.

You see, this is why people also call it an antioxidant, because it prevents or slows down oxidation (breakdown) of the tissues of the body. This story can become quite convoluted in that there are good ROS’s and bad ones. When the bad ones interfere with the good ones (which also allow communication between cells), then communication between the cells can be brought to a standstill, and a disease state is created.

The fix:

So what do we do about all of this, how can we protect ourselves? Well, disruption of the normal redox (oxidation, reduction process which is the stealing of electrons compared to the donation of them) process can cause a toxic state to become so overwhelming that you get sick, in some cases very sick. The Redox process in the body increases the production of peroxides, hydroxyl and other forms of ROS’s that damage all components of the cell which include your DNA, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

What we need to do now is to answer the question “what can we do about it, how can we take action?” Well, the answer is really very easy, and that is to take a free radical scavenger which will prevent or slow the damage down. You could take many of the different nutrients on the market which claim to take care of this for you, and in many cases, this would be a great idea. But what we are going to suggest is so ‘cutting edge’ that it will blow you away. Why not let the water do the job for you! Yes, that is what it said…water.

Technology has advanced to the point where we can now manipulate the simple, taken for granted water molecule and put it to work. The best way to date that can do this is to change the molecular structure of water so that it becomes an antioxidant itself! There are a number of ways that this can be accomplished, but one of the best ways to date is by using an earth based medium (minerals). This process is incredible, these minerals alter the structure of the water molecule so that it produces (or frees up) millions and millions of electrons. These electrons, if you remember from our discussion above, are used by the body in the process called reduction (antioxidant). Remember, this is exactly what we wanted to happen to offset those molecules that STEAL electrons. This is so incredible when you think about it. Not only is water a great delivery system, it is also going to protect you many times more than the supplements could. The restructured water provides exponentially more electrons (antioxidant capacity) than any supplement can. It isn’t that supplements aren’t great for some things: it is just that this newly structured water can do the same thing only millions of times better!

Another therapeutic aspect of restructured water is an increase in its pH. Increases in the electrical activity of water also increase its pH, this process is called alkalization and will be the subject of another article.

Structured Water…?

Due to the FACT that our water has become so toxic, an entirely new “science of water” has begun to emerge. Besides the obvious avoidance of polluted water, scientists and doctors alike have discovered that the varying types of molecular structures of water molecules are far more important to our health than we ever realized.

Homeopaths everywhere are discovering the wonderful world of “clustered” or “structured” water. Specifically, the science of analyzing and creating different structured water has begun to reveal astounding facts. A definition of “altered”, “functional”, or “structured” water beverages might be as follows:

“…any mechanical, electrical, magnetic, optical, or other process or combinations thereof, which alters the physical or chemical characteristics of water, thereby creating a new form or species of water…which when utilized by plants, animals or humans…demonstrates measurable and repeatable benefits to chemical, enzymatic, and general cellular functions”.

Dr. Charles Mayo, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota

Water hardness is the underlying cause of many, if not all, of the diseases resulting from poisons in the intestinal tract. These (hard minerals) pass through the intestinal walls and get into the lymphatic system, which delivers all of its products to the blood, which in turn, distributes to all parts of the body. This is the cause of much human disease.

Dr. Gerald Pollack, PhD

Water is clearly one of the most important factors in terms of what you put into your body, simply because without it. you will die within a few short days. You may know that two-thirds of your body is water, but did you know that in terms of the number of molecules, your body actually consists of over 99 percent water molecules! Astounding, isn’t it? For years, Dr. Pollack had been doing research on muscles and how they contract, but it struck him as odd that the most common ideas about muscle contraction do not involve water, despite muscle tissue consisting of 99 percent water molecules.

“So I became interested in water,” Dr. Pollack says, “We’ve been doing research in my laboratory at the University of Washington for some 10 years now on water. The book that I wrote in 2001, called Cells, Gels, and the Engines of Life, talks about the role of water in cell biology. Water is absolutely central.”

Yet textbooks by and large completely ignore the presence of water in your organs, muscles, and tissues. Dr. Pollack’s book addresses this discrepancy and brings to the fore the role of water.

“The central message of that book is if you don’t understand how water interacts with the components of the cell, you haven’t a clue of how the cells work,” he says.

Interestingly enough, if you’re like most people, you probably think we’ve got water all figured out. But according to Dr. Pollack, this is far from true. In fact “those in the field know that it’s absolutely not true. We haven’t a clue how water works,” he says. So here we are in 2011, and even now leading scientists like Dr. Pollack are just starting to pick at the tip of the iceberg in terms of understanding the foundational basis of water!

“In our lab, we’ve been focusing mainly on water structure near interfaces. Your body, of course, is filled with interfaces. Inside the cell, it’s mainly proteins, nucleic acids, and salts. They’re all interfacing with water, “Dr. Pollack says.

“So the central question is: what happens when water interfaces with those constituents? Does it change? Does it remain the same? This is where we’ve made some important discoveries.”

Highlights of a Decade’s Worth of Research into Water

Dr. Pollack’s research has uncovered some interesting surprises.

The chemistry book says, you have a charged interface, or so-called hydrophilic (water loving) interface (which most of the constituents in your cell are), the current view is that a few water molecules might actually line up and become ordered. But this is considered a secondary effect, — not very important for understanding of how cells function. What we found is that instead of two or three molecular layers, the ordering of water can actually amount to a few million molecular layers.

In other words, the water at interfaces can order in a macroscopic way. There is a really huge amount of this kind of water, and its properties are so different that it looks like a distinct phase of water.”

So, what does this mean, in terms of affecting human biology?

If you think of the cell as a matrix of proteins, like a grid made up of proteins and nucleic acids, the spaces in between those grids are filled with water. This means there are a lot of surfaces that interact with water and impact its structure. Your cells consist mainly of this interfacial or structured/ordered water, making it essential to understand this water in order to understand the workings of the cell.

This is not a new idea. It’s been known for years, although the information has largely fallen out of view and been forgotten. One of the pioneers in this area is a Chinese-American researcher Gilbert Ling, who wrote several books on the central importance of water in the cell.

Dr. Pollack explains: “In your cells are multiple batteries with plus and minus charges, separated… The question is, how are these batteries charged?

The charge comes from incident radiant energy; light, heat, and ultraviolet. All of these absorbed energies separate the charge. The energy that’s coming in from outside builds this charge separation and order. This potential energy fills your cells. I think this energy is critical to an understanding of how your cells work.”

In a nutshell, the water in each of your cells achieves its ordered structure from energy obtained from the environment, typically in the form of electromagnetic radiation, including sunlight and infrared beat.

How the Water in Your Cells Impacts Your Health

You may have heard about “structured water” before. Many are quite skeptical, and some don’t even believe it exists, let alone that it has any value. But it’s important when trying to find high quality water. Water filtration processes used to clean our water supply frequently de-structures the water, so the question is whether or not this matters. Dr. Pollack explains this challenging concept in the following lecture:

“In terms of the water that we drink, it’s really a complicated issue,” Dr. Pollack admits.

But the water inside your cells is absolutely critical for your health. If you have a pathology of an organ, it is not only the proteins inside that organ that are not working, but also the water inside that organ. That near-protein water is not ordered in the way it should be.

So what you want to do is reestablish a kind of “ordering”.

What this means is that if you don’t have properly structured water in your cells, it can impact the functioning of the much larger protein molecules (and others) that are interfacing with it.

In fact, the protein molecule in your cells cannot be viewed as just a molecule by itself. It’s actually the molecule PLUS the water. These two factors together form the “entity” of the molecule in question.

If you need that entity to function properly –take a muscle for example-if the muscle is not functioning, it’s the protein and the water that are not functioning, Dr. Pollack explains. “You need plenty of this ordered/structured water and protein s in their right form in order to make the muscle function properly. So if you have a muscle injury then both are not functioning.“

Should You Drink Structured Water?

This is still a question open for debate. However, Dr. Pollack believes that if you’re able to drink structured water, it would be good for your health. Interestingly, certain waters, such as the “healing water” from the Ganges and Lourdes, for example, have been studied and found to have the signature of the structured water found in cells.

“In other words, there was a particular absorption of energy at a particular wave length that’s absolutely characteristic of the structured water,” Dr. Pollack says.“

That makes me think that there is a good possibility that the water really has the capability of retaining that structure over a long time… Therefore, it’s possible that if you drink water that has this structure, it might be good for your health.”

The second issue is: what happens when you swallow it? Does it still have the proper structure by the time it’s absorbed in your intestines? According to Dr. Pollack, this question has yet to be answered and needs to be studied further.

So it’s possible that when you swallow properly structured water … it might be preserved. If this structure is then absorbed into your intestines then it’s possible it can be retained all the way into your cells. It’s also possible that it’s the charge within the ordered water that really matters.

Structured water contains charge, negative charge usually. It’s possible that what you’re really doing is absorbing the negative charge, and that negative charge is critical for building the structure. That’s another possible route.“

The Connection between Structured Water and the Practice of Earthing

Dr. Pollack also offers some fascinating insights into the technique of earthing, or grounding the simple act of walking barefoot to “ground” with the Earth. The scientific theory behind the health benefits seen from this simple practice is that your body absorbs negative electrons from the Earth through the soles of your feet.

Interestingly, Pollack adds support to this idea by explaining how the Earth is negatively charged, so when you ground, you’re connecting your body to a negatively charged supply of energy. And since the Earth has a greater negative charge than your body, you end up absorbing electrons from it.

These negatively charged electrons may then help increase the structure of the water in your cells – just as water increases in structure when a negative charge is introduced with an electrode.

Water and Hydration

You’ve more than likely heard this before … you can live for days, weeks, and even months without food, but 2 to 3 days without water could kill you. In Arizona, it’s more like 2 to 3 hours without water could kill you! OK, a bit of an exaggeration (unless a person started out dehydrated and exercised in the heat for 2 or 3 hours in which case heat exhaustion and death could be very real outcomes) but I would bet money that a majority of people reading this right now are not properly hydrated. Especially in Arizona, people tend to walk around in a constant state of dehydration.

What is hydration/dehydration?

Not an easy question, because it will differ from person to person. I tend to think of hydration status on a continuum, with people usually falling somewhere in between. On the average, water makes up 60-70% of your body weight. The range is due to the fact that different cells contain different amounts of water. Muscle cells, for example, are 70-75% water whereas fat cells are only 10-15% water. Therefore, a muscular person will have a larger percentage of his/her body weight coming from water.

Dehydration is usually expressed as the loss of a certain percentage of one’s weight. Scientists define dehydration as losses greater than only 1% of body weight. Water is lost first from the blood which is 90% water. If water deprivation continues, cells will start to lose their water content. Dehydration can become fatal when 9 – 12 % of your body weight is lost via water.

Why is being hydrated so important?

To answer this question, consider the following functions of water in our bodies:

  • In saliva and stomach secretions it helps to digest food
  • In blood, it helps transport nutrients and oxygen to all the cells of the body
  • In body fluids, it helps lubricate joints and cushions organs and tissues in urine, it carries waste products out of the body
  • In sweat, it removes body heat generated during exercise

(From Physician and Sports Medicine, Nancy Clark MS, RD – May 1995).

Drinking plenty of water is also important for healthy skin. Another interesting fact: sometimes our body confuses a thirst signal for a hunger signal, which is why drinking a glass of water before a meal or snack is a common weight management tip.

Why is it so hard to stay hydrated?

For one, or bodies are constantly losing water. The most obvious way is through daily urine output. If you exercise, you sweat. Studies of athletes have shown sweat losses of 2 quarts per hour while exercising! Most of us will lose less than that on our daily walk/run, but sweating is still a large source of water loss. Even when not exercising we are losing water through our skin – this is called ‘insensible losses’. Other insensible losses are through respiration and feces.

Another reason we have a hard time staying hydrated is that our thirst mechanism has a sort of lag time. Once we are thirsty, our bodies have already reached the point of moderate dehydration, and it becomes more difficult to replenish the fluids to the point of hydration.

How do you know if you’re hydrated or dehydrated?

The best way to tell if you’re hydrated is to monitor your urine. You should be urinating a significant amount regularly (3-4 times) throughout the day. If your urine is pale yellow or clear in color you are drinking enough. If it is dark yellow and odorous, get a big glass of water and start guzzling! Keep in mind that a vitamin pill will also make your urine dark – so it is possible to have dark urine and still be hydrated.

The first sign of dehydration is thirst. Other signs of moderate dehydration are low grade headache and fatigue. Severe dehydration is accompanied by nausea, chills, increased heart rate, inability to sweat, and lightheadedness. At this point, medical attention is warranted.

How much water do I need?

Again, it depends on who you are. A rule of thumb that you may have heard is no less than 64 oz. per day. That’s about 8 glasses of water per day if you prefer to think of it that way. This amount would probably be adequate for someone who lived in a temperate climate and was totally sedentary. Hopefully, no one out there is totally sedentary and Arizona is definitely not a temperate climate in August! When you add exercise and hot weather, your fluid needs increase significantly. It would be a good idea to add at least two more cups if you live in an intemperate climate.

Water needs are also related to how many calories you burn daily. You need about 1ml of water for every calorie you burn. So, if you’re very active and burn 3000-4000 calories per day, you would need 3-4 liters of water (13-17 cups)! Another rule of thumb: if you exercise, weigh yourself before and after your workout. For every pound lost, drink at least 2 cups or 16 oz. of water.

It’s also a good idea to get 1-2 cups of fluid 15- 30 minutes before you work out.

Most people are a bit shocked when they discover how much fluid they need. Luckily, you get some fluids from foods you eat (especially fruits _and veggies), and from non-caffeinated beverages (fruit juice, sports drinks, milk, vegetable juice, herbal teas). Remember caffeine and alcohol are both diuretics, and contribute to dehydration. So all your fluid intake doesn’t necessarily have to come from water intake – although it is the easiest and (usually) the cheapest way.

A lot of people have questions about which kind of water they should be drinking. Generally speaking, tap water is safe in the U.S. If you are concerned about your tap water, you can contact the water company and get a report on the contamination level and also how the water is treated. If your tap water tastes funny, it’s a great idea to invest in a water filter – they are relatively inexpensive and can be attached to the faucet. Bottled water is generally safer than tap water, but did you know that 25% of bottled water comes from a municipal source? Look at label information to make sure your water comes from a well or a spring vs. a community or municipal source. There several different types of bottled water: mineral water, spring water, purified water, sparkling water, and sterilized water.

Water: How much should you drink every day?

Water is essential to good health, yet needs vary by individual. These guidelines can help ensure you drink enough fluids.

How much water should you drink each day? It’s a simple question with no easy answers. Studies have produced varying recommendations over the years, but in truth, your water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live.

Although no single formula fits everyone, knowing more about your body’s need for fluids will help you estimate how much water to drink each day.

Health Benefits of Water

Water is your body’s principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells, and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don’t have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.

How much water do you need?

Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine, and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.

So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3liters) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day.

What about the advice to drink 8 glasses a day?

Everyone has heard the advice, “Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.” That’s about 1.9 liters, which isn’t that different from the Institute of Medicine recommendations. Although the 8 by 8 rule isn’t supported by hard evidence, it remains popular because it’s easy to remember. Just keep in mind that the rule should be reframed as: “Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day, because all fluids count toward the daily total.”

“Up to two-thirds of the harmful effects of chlorine are due to inhalation and skin absorption while showering.”

Dr. James Lembeck, PhD, CH

When it comes to your health. The ingestion of water (H2O) can be the most important health promoting substance that you can consume. The importance of this statement cannot be emphasized enough. If you are not consuming fresh, clean filtered water, it is just a matter of time before you may begin to manifest symptoms that most doctors will not have the ability to trace back to what could’ve been the simplest solution to solve a specific health problem. Most municipal water facilities test their water on a fairly regular basis, but it is an unfortunate reality that they only test for the ‘basics’ with regards to safety, and do not test for a majority of other environmental toxins.

In an effort to prevent this article from turning into a chemistry lesson, some basics need to be gone over before you can understand how important this molecule is. H2o a ‘compound’ is made up of reductants, which are its hydrogen atoms and oxidants which are its oxygen atoms. Reductants donate electrons, and oxidants take these same electrons for use in any one of the millions of reactions that occur in the body at any one moment in time. It is a balancing act that occurs every second of every day in every living creature on the planet, when it is working at optimal efficiency health is maintained. Since water is a huge portion of this balancing act, the quality of the water we drink is essential in helping us to maintain health. How do we tell if the water that we are drinking is of superior quality and is pure? There are three components that help us to determine water quality on several levels. These are, how much dissolved hydrogen and oxygen there is in it, and what is the redox potential of the water? Reduction potential is defined as a measure, or tendency of the solution to either gain or lose electrons. The reduction potential is one of the measures that is used to determine the quality (or activity) of drinking water. Others would be what the water has dissolved in it, and the overall structure of the water.

Water that has been ‘reduced’ contains less dissolved oxygen than regular tap water. This being the case it also therefore reduces the ability of the water to create reactive oxygen species or free radicals in our bodies. In addition to this, water that has an increase in dissolved hydrogen, and a high negative reduction potential is water that is an electron donor, and acts as a free radical scavenger of the highest order. The molecules known as free radicals can be devastating; they can destroy cell membranes and ONA throughout the body. The damage that these molecules cause can be the precursor to some of the most prolific diseases that plague every living creature on the planet. Free radical s can be generated and caused by many of the impurities that are found in unfiltered drinking water. Some of these may include, but are not limited to (depending on which part of the world you live in) fluoride, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), trihalomethanes (TRMs), hormones, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, pesticides, perchlorates, heavy metals such as lead and cadmium and mercury, hormones, medications, BPA and other chemicals and the list goes on.

One would think that if the water was being treated with chlorine and or fluoride that it would be safe to drink even in our homes. But what most people do not know or understand is that water is a solvent. What is a solvent? A solvent is any substance that is able to dissolve a solute. What is a solute? It is the substance that is being dissolved, or is a substance that is already found in the water. So with that said, a solution which in this case is water may contain beneficial dissolved substances such as minerals, or it may contain toxic materials. How do these substances affect the body? Well, in the case of THMs which are formed as a by-product of the chlorination of drinking water; they can cause pathologies such as bladder cancer, which has been tied to the exposure of chlorinated by-products in the water we drink. The absorption of chlorine or its byproducts through ingestion, or having direct contact with, or the inhalation of this chemical has been shown to have detrimental effects on the body. By being exposed to chlorine through the ingestion of drinking water, inhaling it or through dermal (skin) absorption, it has been shown in some studies to increase the occurrence of bladder cancer risk.

Some water supplies around the world have been shown to contain (PCBs). This class of chemicals has been shown to modify and alter the growth and development in animals and humans, in this case specifically by targeting the functioning of the thyroid hormone in humans. PCBs can profoundly affect fetal brain development which is dependent upon the thyroid hormone supplied by the mother during gestation. In fact, some epidemiologic evidence suggests that there may be a link between PCB exposure during fetal development, and cognitive development problems that are now showing up in many children around the world. The extent of damage that this chemical has been shown to induce may not be limited to just cognitive impairment, it may also extend to psychological and motor issues that occur after birth, and may extend into adolescence. These include, but are not limited to, a lowered overall IQ, impaired impulse control and attention and motor deficits.

There are over 500 different species of bacteria that live in our intestinal tracts, which include the well-known staph, strep and e-coli bacteria families. These intestinal bacteria, of which there are many different types, can be detrimental as well as beneficial. These as well as many others help protect us against many forms of disease. The benefits of this bacteria range from being an extension of the immune system as well as being involved in the production of enzymes and other nutrients. We are only now beginning to understand the involvement of these bacteria in the every day maintenance of health. So what impacts do these beneficial microorganisms have in helping to sustain our lives? What may have a negative impact on their survival and their ability to thrive? Even though this is an area that requires a great deal more research, some studies that have been performed in the past show that something as simple and as innocuous as our drinking water may have an effect on these beneficial bacteria on all levels. It would make sense that if the chlorine added to our water would have an impact on certain types of pathogenic bacteria; that it would also have a direct impact on the beneficial bacteria that also live in our intestinal tracts. One study that was done a number of years ago looked into the effects of chlorine on a certain family of gastrointestinal bacteria, better known as E. Coli. It was found that even though there are many strains of E. Coli, some are beneficial. It was determined that they were sensitive to chlorine. According to this study both the pathogenic and nonpathogenic strains were significantly impacted in less than 1 minute after exposure to free chlorine. This study indicates that the chlorine levels typically found in most municipal water systems are sufficient enough to eliminate these micro-organisms.

The effects of water on the human body as stated, are profound in ways that most people cannot relate to because the concept is so simple. What needs to be taken into account is that our systems are under attack from all directions. Most people think that drinking bottled water is safe and it is pure and does not contain any contaminants. But recent events and scientific research has shown that bottled water is not pure and in many cases is as bad as, or worse than regular tap water. Your education with regards to water purification can be arduous because there is so much disinformation that is being perpetuated on the World Wide Web. The more educated you are as a consumer, the better you will be able to protect yourself from being taken advantage of, and ensuring that you will be able to purchase products that are appropriate in helping to maintain your long-term health.

Dr. Paul Bragg, N.D. Ph.T.

“The greatest damage done by inorganic minerals-plus waxy cholesterol and salt- is to the small arteries and other blood vessels of the brain (75% water). Hardening of the arteries and calcification of blood vessels starts on the day you start taking inorganic chemicals (and minerals from tap water) into our bodies.”

According to author Ray Kurzweil, member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Alkaline Water has extended benefits beyond increasing the pH of water. He states that the Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) is the most important benefit of Alkaline Water. The ORP reading is an indicator of how bio-available and bio-absorbable a product will be in your body. The lower the reading below 0 millivolts (mv). The more ions are available to assist with your body’s metabolic functions. A very high negative ORP is desirable because it is very useful at attacking dangerous free radicals and stops them from harming healthy cells in the body.

“Free radicals are among the most dangerous molecules in the body and are highly unstable molecules that are oxidizing agents and are electron deficient. They are a principle cause of damage and disease in the body. Oxygen free radicals contribute significantly to a broad variety of harmful conditions in the body, ranging from life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, to less severe conditions such as sunburns, arthritis, cataracts, and many others. Damage to tissues result when free radicals strip these [necessary] electrons from healthy cells. If the damage goes unchecked, this will lead to disease. For example, the oxidation of LDL cholesterol particles in arterial walls by free radicals triggers an immune system response that results in atherosclerosis, the principle cause of heart disease.”

The human body has a blood pH of 7.365 and it is essential to maintain this pH balance. Much of what we eat, such as processed sugar, meat, diary, and coffee has an acidic effect on the pH balance. As an effect, the body has to work extra hard to restore itself to a neutral pH. Alkaline Water greatly assist in the balancing process by introducing a higher pH to the body to offset the low pH and therefore, the natural balance is reestablished.

Alkaline Water also significantly helps the body absorb minerals because, if the body does not have enough minerals, such as calcium, it tries to find it elsewhere and could potentially steal it from the bones in our body. This weakens the bones and could cause major problems later in life.

Dr. Alexis Carrel

Our cells must be constantly bathed in water in order to be hydrated. Without enough hydration our cell waste’s can’t get eliminated and this impedes all cell functions. The kind of water we drink makes a big difference on every living cell in our body. Unhealthy water is acidic and/or full of chemicals, thus will not properly hydrate our cells. Healthy water is slightly alkaline to balance off the excess of acids our bodies must eliminate.

Nobel Prize winner Dr. Alexis Carrel did an experiment to keep cells from a chicken heart alive and reproducing new cells for 28 years! Chickens only normally live eight years, so these chicken heart cells far outlived the life of a chicken and they could have lived on forever if he wanted. He did this by placing the cells in a saline solution that was the perfect temperature, pH, and nutrient/mineral balance. He replaced this solution daily (cleaning away toxic [acidic] wastes). Eventually, after 28 years the purpose of the experiment was achieved. The cells did not die of aging they simply stopped the experiment and Dr. Carrel concluded the following;

“The cell is immortal. It is merely the fluid in which it floats which degenerates. Renew this fluid at intervals, give the cells what they require for nutrition and, as far as we know, the pulsation of life may go on forever.”

This experiment to the supposition that cells do not have to age or become diseased and at least one reason they do is because of the acidic wastes which are trapped in the cells. When cells [which are otherwise properly nourished] are bathed and cleansed daily they’re allowed to function properly and they don’t wrinkle or become diseased.

Chlorine, Cancer, and Heart Disease

According to the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, “Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does NOT contain chlorine.”

“One common factor among women with breast cancer is that they all have 60% higher levels of these chlorination byproducts (THMs) in their fat tissue than women without breast cancer….” BreastCancerFund.org

“We are learning the hard way that all the time we thought we were preventing epidemics of one disease, we were creating another. Two decades after the start of chlorinating our drinking water the present epidemic of heart trouble and cancer began. Joseph M. Price, PhD

Why Is Ionized Water So Miraculous?

The human body is Alkaline by design, while all of the functions of the bodily actions and reactions are acidic by nature. Human health is based on the health of the blood, which is a very delicate balance of 7.365ph for perfect health.

The single most important thing one can for one's body, asides from breathing oxygen, is to maintain the ph of 7.365, by drinking Alkaline/Ionized water.
Eating, drinking and thought processes all effect one's ph, so its not just about what we are putting into our bodies on a physical sense but also the emotionality of the body and mind. Your thoughts become biology.

Ionization is a process of tranforming ordinary water from your home or office into a powerful Antioxidant for Wellness, Weight-Loss and Anti-Aging!

With a ph of 7 representing the midpoint anything below 7 has a positive charge creating acids and oxidizing properties that cause dis-ease and age you at a fast rate of speed. With a ph of 7 or above the water has a negative charge which produces high levels of Alkalinity and Oxygenation keeping the body in perfect heath, with detoxifying and hydrating qualities.

Alkaline/Ionized water gives your body the ability to remain in harmonious balance with health and wellness, while enjoying the effects of perfect health through healing, increased energy, weight loss, vibrant skin and the satisfaction of internal well being.

Alkalized/Ionized water is the fundamental foundation of the fountain of youth!
